With the sun-soaked island being one of the most sought-after destinations in the Caribbean this year, hospitality firms are investing in the tropical country at a record pace, with new projects popping up in several locations.

Here’s the latest exciting news on the Dominican Republic’s booming travel industry:

Pedernales: Cutting-Edge Cruise Port Meets All-Inclusive Luxury

Situated in the southwestern tip of the Dominican Republic lies Pedernales, an area rich in untouched nature, virgin white-sand beaches, and quaint villages. The region is developing quickly, with most new investments coalescing around the Cabo Rojo cruise ship port.

Slated to open in December, the massive undertaking will become the country’s newest cruise ship hub. Up to eight resorts are in the making, with sustainability being a focal point of the ongoing development.

Some of the main projects being built include a 5-star, 580-room Iberostar property. The Spanish hospitality giant is aiming for a lavish eco-friendly resort that benefits from Pedernales’ lush nature, offering several outdoor pools, a spa, and spacious rooms.

Miches: Eco-Tourist Haven

Nestled in between virgin white-sand beaches and rainforest-covered hills, Miches is a tropical oasis that is poised to become the country’s newest eco-tourism hotspot.

While Miches is already home to a handful of luxurious properties such as Club Med Playa Esmeralda and two Temptation resorts, a flurry of new investments will make the coastal destination one of the most attractive vacation hubs in the years to come.

With a focus on eco-experiences, properties in Miches boast some impressive green credentials that protect the area’s delicate ecosystems while offering a traditional array of all-inclusive luxury.

One of the largest projects taking place in the coastal destination is Zemi, a new 500-room resort slated for opening next year. Featuring ocean views and lush gardens, the property will offer guests access to a private beach alongside other lavish experiences.

Punta Bergantín: All-Inclusive Mega-Resort Complex

The Dominican Republic is full of exciting new destinations for travelers to explore, but few come close to the all-inclusive luxury of Punta Bergantín.

Work recently began the extensive project situated near the coastal resort hotspot of Puerto Plata. Compared to a traditional resort hub, Punta Bergantín will offer a complete package, including luxury properties, residential complexes, and an abundance of shopping options, all within walking distance.

The huge development will lead to the construction of over 4,000 new hotel rooms and nearly 17,000 residential units.

With a focus on cinematography, Punta Bergantín will stand out not only as a tourism hotspot but also its role as a leading media hub, with several movie theatres and an art school in the making.

Punta Cana: World-Class Resort And Entertainment Hub

While Punta Cana already boasts more properties than any other destination in the Dominican Republic, resorts are always looking for new ways to stand out among the crowd.

The opening of the massive Katmandu theme park in February was a watershed moment for Punta Cana.

The largest of its kind in the Caribbean, the theme park seeks to bring a brand new type of resort complex for travelers to enjoy, one that fuses luxury with entertainment.

Next year, Punta Cana will be home to the largest resort in the country once the 2,000-room Moon Palace opens its doors to guests.

Aside from all these developments, existing resorts are increasingly focusing on offering nature-based experiences, such as Paradisus Palma Real, which recently launched the new Destination Inclusive package.
