There’s no doubt that the Dominican Republic has become one of the hottest destinations in the Caribbean this year.

That achievement is further evidenced by new statistics published by ForwardKeys, which reveal that the number of Americans flocking to the sunny destination has skyrocketed by more than 30% year on year.

And that’s just a small taste of what’s to come as the busy winter season approaches.

With a record-breaking travel season on the horizon, the Dominican Republic is expected to dominate the travel scene as one of the most popular international destinations for American travelers.

With that in mind, here’s the latest insight on the Dominican Republic’s growing popularity.

American travel to the Dominican Republic has grown at a steady pace following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With more Americans set to travel this year, the island nation currently stands out as one of the most sought-after choices thanks to its excellent hospitality and warm year-round weather.

This week, ForwardKeys, a leading travel analyst firm, published new statistics on American travel patterns.

Key insights by the number-crunching firm show that U.S. citizens are traveling 13% more compared to before, with warm tropical destinations like Mexico and the Dominican Republic topping the popularity charts.

The new study also shows that families make up an increasingly important share of the travel market as travelers seek to spend more time with their loved ones.

And in that sense, few destinations can compete with what the Dominican Republic has to offer.

From some of the best family-friendly resorts in the world to excellent safety and a growing selection of kid-friendly activities, the Dominican Republic is a valued choice for family travel.

That segment is set to grow by more than 21% this year, with the highest growth being reported in warm tropical destinations.

American travelers are also splurging more for their annual holidays this year, making the Dominican Republic an excellent choice due to the country’s ongoing resort construction boom.

New properties are opening their doors to travelers across the country, offering ever-growing levels of luxury and comfort.

In Miches, a booming eco-tourism hotspot, over 2000 new hotel rooms are under construction, and in Punta Cana, existing resorts are seeing massive renovations to upgrade amenities and add new exciting entertainment options.

The Dominican Republic has also reported back-to-back growth in passenger arrival figures, consolidating the country’s role as a major destination for North American travelers.

Growing demand means more airlines are opening new routes to the popular island nation. This winter, a record number of carriers are slated to operate flights to Punta Cana.

The city’s massive airport, which handles over 8 million passengers per year, just wrapped up a costly renovation to bolster safety and passenger capacity.

Airlines, including American Airlines, Delta, and several major Canada-based carriers, have all announced plans to increase the availability of seats to Caribbean destinations by as much as 30% in 2023 compared to last year.

That means that Americans will be able to travel to the Dominican Republic from more destinations than before, and with ongoing efforts to implement an Open Skies Treaty between the United States and the Caribbean nation, travelers can hopefully expect prices to drop.

A similar agreement between Canada and the Dominican Republic came into effect in February, significantly improving the flexibility of Canadian airlines to launch new flights to the warm destination.
