You Will Not Be Able To Board Your Flight To The Dominican Republic If You Don’t Have This

You have your passport, your swimsuit is packed, and your transfer to the resort is booked. You are ready for paradise.

But there is one crucial digital document that stands between you and your vacation, and if you don’t have it ready before you get to the airport counter, you will be denied boarding.

You Will Not Be Able To Board Your Flight To The Dominican Republic If You Don't Have This

We are talking about the Electronic Ticket (E-Ticket), the mandatory digital form that has replaced all paper immigration and customs declarations for entering and leaving the Dominican Republic.

Here at The Dominican Republic Sun, our team just flew from the United States into Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) to report on the winter travel season. Here is exactly what happened during our check-in process, how the system works, and the official link you need to use to avoid getting scammed.

The Airline Is The Gatekeeper

There is a common misconception among travelers that the E-Ticket is only for the immigration officer when you land in the DR.

This is false.

In our experience flying this week, the “gatekeeper” for this form was actually the airline back in the United States.

When we approached the check-in counter to drop off our bags, the agent immediately asked: “Do you have your QR codes for the Dominican Republic?”

Before they would even print our boarding passes or tag our luggage, we had to present the E-Ticket QR code on our phone screens. The agent verified that the form was completed and valid.

If we had not completed this form in advance, we would have been pulled out of line and forced to fill it out on the spot, risking missing the baggage cutoff time.

What Is The E-Ticket?

The E-Ticket is a digital portal that combines three forms into one:

  1. The International Boarding and Disembarkation Card.
  2. ** The Customs Declaration Form.**
  3. ** The Affidavit of Health.**

The Dominican Republic government made this digital form mandatory to streamline the entry process. Paper forms are no longer handed out on the plane, and you cannot fill out a paper card upon arrival. It must be done digitally.

How It Works: A Step-By-Step Guide

The process is simple if you know where to go.

1. Access the Official Website You must use the official government portal: https://eticket.migracion.gob.do/

Important Warning: There are dozens of “copycat” websites designed to look like the official portal. These scam sites will try to charge you $30 to $80 USD to process the form. The E-Ticket is 100% FREE. If a website asks you for a credit card number, you are on the wrong site.

2. Fill Out The Form You can fill out the form up to 72 hours before your flight. You will need:

  • Your Passport details.
  • Flight number and airline name.
  • Hotel name or address where you are staying.

3. Single vs. Family If you are traveling as a family, you do not need to fill out a separate form for every single person. The system allows you to create one E-Ticket for the entire family group (up to 6 travelers) traveling on the same itinerary.

4. Save The QR Code Once you hit submit, the system will generate a PDF with a QR Code.

  • Take a screenshot of this code immediately.
  • Save the PDF to your phone.
  • Do not rely on the airport WiFi to pull it up later.

Our Arrival Experience in Punta Cana

Interestingly, once we landed in Punta Cana, the process was seamless—almost too seamless.

When we approached the immigration booth, the officer scanned our passports and stamped them. They did not ask to scan the QR code again. This is because the system is linked to your passport number digitally. However, customs officers at the exit can ask to see it, so keep that screenshot handy until you are officially outside the airport and in your taxi.

The Bottom Line: Even if Immigration doesn’t ask for it, your airline will. Do not head to the airport without this code saved to your camera roll.

Don’t Forget The Return Trip

One detail that catches many travelers off guard is that you also need an E-Ticket to leave the country.

The E-Ticket system requires two separate forms:

  • One for Arrival (Entering the DR).
  • One for Departure (Leaving the DR).

We recommend filling out both the “Arrival” and “Departure” forms at the same time while you are at home with good WiFi. You can save both QR codes to your phone so you don’t have to stress about hotel internet speeds on your last day of vacation.

Travel safe, save that QR code, and enjoy the sun.
