The region in question is the stunning province of La Romana-Bayahíbe. Located south of Punta Cana, this paradisiacal region is home to quaint beaches, luxurious resorts, and one of the most vibrant cultural hotspots in the Dominican Republic.

With a record number of travelers expected to set foot on the sunny island this winter, here’s a look at why resorts in La Romana-Bayahíbe are nearly fully sold out.

Bookings Skyrocket In La Romana Amid Record Demand This Winter

Travel to the Dominican Republic has grown at a steady pace in the past several years. In fact, the tropical island is now one of the fastest-growing destinations in the world, aided by excellent safety, award-winning resorts, and some of the best attractions in the Caribbean.

This winter, the Dominican Republic is expected to shatter travel records and the country is on track to welcome over 10 million visitors by the end of the year. With December just around the corner, hotels and resorts across the sunny island are selling out fast.

New statistics show that La Romana-Bayabíbe is likely to be among the most sought-after regions in the Dominican Republic this winter, with projections showing an expected occupancy rate of over 90%.

That means that just one in ten rooms are available for travelers, and with just a few weeks to go until the peak of the high season, last-minute bookings are likely to come with a hefty price tag.

La Romana – Bayahíbe encompasses a number of popular resort destinations, including La Romana, one of the largest cities in the Dominican Republic and a hub for luxury travel.

And with a record number of Americans setting their sights on the Caribbean, experts expect a huge increase in bookings from U.S. travelers. That’s according to Ana García, the head of the La Romana – Bayahíbe hotel association, who says that Americans are increasingly keen on the growing destination.

Skyrocketing demand for hotels in both La Romana and the Bayahíbe area have prompted many properties to hire more personnel to meet traveler demand and to guarantee an excellent stay for hundreds and thousands of guests.

Moreover, several notable properties in the region have undergone costly renovations over the past several months in anticipation of the upcoming winter season. Sunscape Dominicus La Romana, an upscale 800-room beachfront resort, is soon expected to wrap up a massive makeover to enhance amenities and on-site facilities.

The prestigious Hyatt resort will open its doors to travelers on December 10, 2023, just in time for the record-breaking winter season. Meanwhile, Casa de Campo, one of the most lavish properties in the Caribbean, recently launched new spectacular suites and a world-class spa for guests.

La Romana International Airport currently has a number of routes from North America and Europe, although most U.S. travelers will find it easier to reach the coastal destination via Punta Cana.

As demand for new destinations in the Dominican Republic grows, many travelers will opt for hotspots like La Romana and Puerto Plata over Punta Cana, which is also seeing occupancy skyrocket. Meanwhile, new destinations like Miches and Pedernales offer quieter beaches, emptier resorts, and more nature.
