Travelers may be getting a taste of things to come regarding flight prices to Punta Cana after JetBlue announced a huge sale on airfare to the Dominican Republic this winter.

The cost of airfare to Punta Cana can be high considering its relatively short distance from the U.S., a fact that is expected to change once the final details of the open skies agreement with the U.S. are ironed out and the game-changing legislation goes into force.

The Savings At A Glance

At a glance, the savings on offer to travelers are huge. For example, a flight between Nashville, Tennessee, and the destination is going for as little as $45.

The savings are also being offered on U.S. to Santo Domingo flights. While the capital of the Dominican Republic is too far from Punta Cana to offer a convenient transfer to the destination, it is a beautiful vacation destination in its own right and certainly worth consideration for travelers wanting an authentic Dominican Republic experience.

When To Fly

For any travelers doing some last-minute vacation planning, these offers are valid from November 28th to January 1st.

It should also be noted that these offers are subject to availability, and it doesn’t include extra costs such as baggage. As with any offer, always check through the terms and conditions to ensure it really is the great deal that it looks like on the face of it.

Surprising Timing

While airline offers on tickets are nothing new, the timing of this is an undeniably rare occurrence. The winter season in Punta Cana is the peak for the destination and not the time of year when travelers normally find savings.

How To Find Airfare Deals

When planning a trip, it’s always worth doing a cost comparison between what a travel agency is offering and the flight and accommodation cost when booking the vacation personally.

Airfare aggregation sites like Skyscanner and Expedia are superb for this and take the bulk of the leg work out of the whole process, allowing travelers to see all available offers in one place.

Additionally, while the JetBlue offer gives those last-minute planners a saving they don’t normally receive, the best way to find deals on airfare is by booking well in advance.

Many airlines will allow travelers to do this up to a year before the flight, and the earlier a traveler books the better. A flight nearly empty of bookings normally spells savings.

On top of that, if travelers have a flexible schedule, weekday flights as well as off-peak flights in the low seasons can condense the costs even further.

Winter or Low-Season?

A vacation to Punta Cana can look a little different depending on whether you choose to book in the winter peak season or the low season.

Winter

One of the biggest reasons to visit in winter is the weather. This is traditionally the dry season in Punta Cana, with sunny days, low humidity, and much fewer rain showers than the rest of the year.

On top of this, if travelers enjoy a livelier atmosphere, the energy is much higher in the resorts, bars, and clubs during the winter season thanks to the huge number of Americans that travel during it.

Unfortunately, there are some downsides. Costs across the board tend to be higher, a fact of life as travelers compete for a vacation spot here, rather than the resorts competing for travelers to stay with them.

And while the bigger crowds and livelier atmosphere can be a plus to some, for others it can impact the relaxation side of a vacation.

Low Season

The low season here runs from around May to November, although it can vary by a month or 2 on either side.

First off, the biggest positive about planning a vacation in Punta Cana during these months is the potential savings on accommodation, flights, and even trips/excursions.

Also, these are without a doubt the months best suited to those hunting for peace and relaxation. While the destination is never empty, the vibe is much slower and calmer during the low season.

The weather is still delightful during these months, but it does come with the potential for short bursts of rain and potentially rougher seas, especially during hurricane season.
