Pedernales, a province rich in nature and ecotourism potential, is poised to become one of the leading resort destinations in the Dominican Republic in the near future as the government launches massive plans to erect new hotels as well as a massive cruise ship port.

A Completely New Destination For Travelers To Explore

The Dominican Republic has become synonymous with Punta Cana, the country’s resort heavyweight in the eastern tip of the country. Although it’ll remain popular for years to come, travelers are increasingly seeking new destinations to explore, and for good reason.

Pedernales has everything travelers need for a vacation in the Dominican Republic and is home to some of the most impressive natural areas in the Caribbean, including Jaragua National Park, the largest in the region. Its shores are some of the most spectacular in the Dominican Republic, with crystal clear waters and extensive reefs.

Aside from untouched natural wonders, Pedernales will house several other attractions that will make it a one-of-a-kind destination, including its new massive cruise ship terminal, which aims to transform the Dominican Republic into the leading cruise destination in the Caribbean.

Pedernales Will Be A Cruise Stop Unlike Any Other

Cruise liners are already showing strong interest in Pedernales, and Norwegian Cruise Lines just announced that it is already planning new routes that will bring passengers to the seaside port. Construction of Port Cabo Rojo, the Dominican Republic’s flagship cruise ship port, is well underway and is expected to be complete by December this year.

With a capacity to handle over a million passengers per year, it will be one of the most high-tech facilities in the Caribbean. It’ll also house a range of accommodations, and there are currently plans to build several thousand hotel rooms in the area.

Some Of The Most Astonishing Nature In The Country

Just what makes Pedernales so special? For most people, the answer is its otherworldly tropical nature, where crystal-clear Caribbean water meets untouched white-sand beaches. Along the area’s jagged coastline, travelers will find several beaches that authorities are currently working on to prepare for more arrivals.

One of the most noteworthy destinations is Bahía de las Águilas (hawk bay), an 8-kilometer-long beach that can welcome up to 3000 visitors per day once construction of its entry points is complete. Just a stone’s throw away from the new Port Cabo Rojo, Bahía de las Águilas is just one of many new nature destinations travelers will be able to enjoy some postcard-like scenery during their next cruise stop.

Excellent Entertainment Facilities

Although Pedenrales will become a hotspot for nature lovers thanks to its ample ecotourism potential, the resort destination will also house several large entertainment complexes that are ideal for families. Travelers will find everything from shopping centers to food courts in Pedernales’ new Port Cabo Rojo.

The massive, nearly $100 million project will also come with a massive new water park where travelers can make the most of the tropical sun. With pools, water slides, and a world-class spa facility, Pedenerales guarantees fun for the whole family.

Home To The Country’s Newest Resorts

Several of the Dominican Republic’s largest hospitality firms have announced new plans to erect massive resorts in Pedernales. Hyatt and Iberostar are the first hospitality heavyweights to launch new resorts in the seaside destination. Each of their new luxury properties will come with around 600 rooms and feature a range of sumptuous amenities, including pools, fine dining, and entertainment options.

This is just a taste of what is to come: the area could see well over 10,000 new rooms built over the following years as interest continues to grow. New resorts in the area will also cater to the growing business travel segment and will offer the perfect venue for large seminars and conferences.
