The Dominican Republic has always been popular with nature enthusiasts.

With one of the longest coastlines in the Caribbean, the sun-soaked island is full of remote palm-tree-lined beaches and stunningly blue waters that create the perfect setting for a getaway.

The country’s picturesque tropical islands are one of the best places to explore plentiful pristine nature.

While there are a handful of islands in the country, only one is home to a luxury resort. Cayo Levantado, a tiny island off the coast of Samaná, houses a 5-star all-inclusive that goes by the same name.

The beautiful property is currently undergoing a massive renovation to upgrade its rooms and amenities and, more importantly, ensure harmony with the lush tropical nature that surrounds the expansive property.

Cayo Levantado is a hidden paradise where nature meets luxury. Here’s why this island property is the perfect choice for nature lovers.

One Of The Dominican Republic’s Most Iconic Resorts Set To Receive Facelift

Last year we reported that Cayo Levantado, a lavish 5-star island all-inclusive some 15 kilometers off the coast of Samaná, was to undergo an extensive renovation.

Fast forward to 2023, and the resort’s makeover is already nearing completion, and the property is expected to welcome its first guests in June – just in time for the record-breaking summer season.

The property first opened its doors in 2006 and has earned a legendary reputation among travelers since then.

While the renovation’s main goal is to make improvements to the resort’s already excellent suites and amenities, executives want to take things a step forward and integrate the property seamlessly with the island’s nature.

Measuring less than a square kilometer in size, what Cayo Levantado lacks in size, it makes up for with its pristine nature and tropical allure.

The island is covered in lush greenery and palm trees, and its coastline features pristine powdery white sand. Not only that, Cayo Levantado is home to endemic plant and animal species.

The center of it all is the gorgeous 193-room, 5-star Cayo Levantado resort. All of the resort’s spacious rooms are set to receive an upgrade, adding more natural touches to the suites.

Evident in its soothing decor and pastel colors, Cayo Levantado features one of the most elegant designs found in any Dominican Republic property.

Guests can look forward to several new features thanks to the ongoing renovations.

The renewed Cayo Levantaod will boast luxurious outdoor villas that offer the utmost privacy and unparalleled views. Sleeping up to 8 guests, they’re a great option for large families or small groups.

Travelers will also find 6 restaurants, 7 bars, and even a coffee shop showcasing local coffee bean culture.

In addition to the elements traditionally found in a luxury all-inclusive, Cayo Levantado will feature a meditation room and guided classes on personal growth.

According to Grupo Pinero, the brand that owns and manages the property, wellness, local culture, and environmental sustainability are the main focal points of the resort’s massive makeover.

The Dominican Republic is full of eco-resorts and sustainable properties, but few take things as far as Cayo Levantado.

According to Hervé Blonder, the resort’s general manager, “sustainability is in Cayo Levantado’s DNA, and I am certain our property will set the standard for environmental management and biodiversity,” the executive said in a statement.

Those guiding principles will be apparent in, for example, Cayo Levantado’s brand-new spa retreat, where guests can indulge themselves with sophisticated body and facial treatments.

Cayo Levantado is set to be one of the country’s greenest properties thanks to the use of eco-friendly materials and a state-of-the-art air conditioning system that will monitor the temperature of the resort’s main areas.

With the opening date fast approaching, guests are already rushing to book for the summer, and the resort is expected to sell out fast.
