For a while, Miches was just a rumor—a “secret” spot with a Club Med and a lot of empty jungle. But this week, the biggest player in the Caribbean just made it official.

Meliá Hotels International (the giant behind the Paradisus brand) has signed a deal with Grupo Puntacana (the Rainieri family who built the PUJ airport) to construct a massive new 600-room resort in Miches.

This is the tipping point. When the people who invented Punta Cana decide to build somewhere else, you know exactly where the future is headed.

Here is the insider breakdown of Paradisus Miches and why this town is officially “The Next Punta Cana.”

The “Super-Resort” Deal

This isn’t a renovation. Meliá is building a brand-new “Super Resort” from the ground up on a pristine stretch of virgin coastline.

Announced at FITUR 2026, the project is a partnership between the country’s two heavyweights. They aren’t just building a hotel; they are planting a flag.

The Specs We Know:

• The Scale: 600 rooms, making it a major anchor for the destination.

• The Layout: Meliá is sticking to its successful “Paradisus” formula. The resort will be split into two distinct worlds: one for Families and one specifically for Adults-Only. This ensures the honeymooners get their silence while the kids get their splash parks.
• The Land: The property sits on 500 meters (over 1,600 feet) of untouched beachfront. Unlike the dense “hotel row” in Bavaro, this resort is being designed as a low-density “refuge” that integrates into the existing jungle.

Where Is Miches? (And Why You Should Care)

If you haven’t been to Miches yet, picture Punta Cana about 35 years ago.

Located on the northeast coast, it is exactly a 90-minute drive from the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) on a modern, paved highway.

The Difference:

• Punta Cana: Flat, busy, developed, and energetic.
• Miches: Wild, mountainous, and quiet. You are surrounded by rolling green hills, waterfalls like Salto La Jalda (the highest in the Caribbean), and beaches like Playa Esmeralda that still have wild coconuts on the sand instead of rows of umbrellas.

Why “The Next Punta Cana”?

For years, “Luxury” in the Dominican Republic meant staying in a slightly nicer room in Punta Cana. But you were still stuck in the same traffic and on the same crowded beach.

Miches offers exclusivity. By moving north, Meliá is betting that travelers are tired of the crowds. They are joining Club Med, and the new Zemi Miches (Hilton Curio) to create a new “High-End District” where the resorts are spread out and the nature is the main amenity.

When Can You Book?

The ink on the contract just dried this week. Since this is a new build in a protected area, don’t expect to check in tomorrow.

Construction of this scale typically takes 18 to 24 months. We expect Paradisus Miches to welcome its first guests in late 2027 or early 2028.
