Home to countless coastal hotspots, this paradisiacal island is proving to be one of the most successful destinations in the Caribbean thanks to its year-round tropical climate, unparalleled public safety, and wide range of accommodations and activities for travelers.

And with visitor numbers set to explode in late 2023, travelers will set out for new destinations across the popular island.

With that in mind, here’s a recap of the most sought-after resort destination in the Dominican Republic in 2023 based on average occupancy rates.

Bávaro-Punta Cana

Home to the country’s most iconic designation of Punta Cana, the Bávaro region in the eastern province of La Altragracia continues to dominate the travel industry in the Dominican Republic.

With an average occupancy rate of over 81% between January and September, this touristy region is officially coveted in the country. Home to thousands of hotel rooms distributed across dozens of award-winning properties, it’s safe to say that this sunny hotspot will continue to attract travelers in droves.

What makes the destination so popular is its excellent International connectivity as well as its plentiful choice of luxurious accommodations.

La Romana-Bayahíbe

Much like Punta Cana, the southern destination of La Romana is home to a stunning variety of luxurious resorts – including the country’s most prestigious property, the award-winning Casa de Campo.

According to the latest report on hotel occupancy in the Dominican Republic, La Romana is currently ranked the second most popular destination on the sunny island. With an average occupancy rate of 79% from January to September, La Romana sits just below Punta Cana in terms of overall popularity.

La Romana is also famous for having some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Dominican Republic. The island of Catalina is just a stone’s throw away from La Romana and is a hotspot for snorkeling, diving, and hiking.

Samaná

Samaná is trending with travelers this year thanks to its perfect combination of natureexcellent hospitality, and local culture. The coastal city is located west of Punta Cana and is surrounded by gorgeous mountains and valleys.

The city of some 110,000 people is the third most sought-after resort destination in the Dominican Republic this year, with an average occupancy rate of 70%. But with travel numbers set to explode later this year, it’s likely the paradisiacal destination will see its occupancy soar as hotels and resorts fill up.

Several resort chains in Samaná – including Bahia Principe properties – are adding new cultural and culinary attractions to their offerings later this year as travelers flock to enjoy authentic Dominican experiences in the popular destination.

Santo Domingo

The bustling capital city of the Dominican Republic is quickly growing as a mainstream destination for culture & history lovers. The oldest city in the Americas, Santo Domingo is just several hours away from other resort hotspots in the Dominican Republic, making it an excellent choice for a day trip.

But aside from its growing array of boutique hotels, Santo Domingo also offers more traditional all-inclusive resort experiences thanks to a handful of beachside locations on the outskirts of the city.
