Dominican Republic Is Building New Destination! 6 Major International Hotel Chains Announced

The government has officially launched the Cabo Rojo-Pedernales project, a massive initiative to create the country’s next major tourism hub. This isn’t a gradual development—it’s a master-planned strategy to open up a pristine corner of the nation to the world. And to ensure its success, they’ve brought in the titans of the hotel industry.

A Blank Canvas of Perfect Beaches

The setting for this colossal project is Pedernales, a region famous for its wild, untouched beauty. Its main attraction is the legendary Bahía de las Águilas (Eagles Bay), a vast, serene bay with miles of brilliant white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water. For decades, its remote location has kept it a hidden gem, but it now serves as the pristine backdrop for this new resort mecca.

The vision is to create a modern destination that rivals any in the Caribbean, complete with luxury accommodations, gourmet dining, and top-tier amenities, all on a coastline that is virtually untouched by tourism until now.

The Hotel Giants Are Moving In

Six of the most powerful names in the hospitality world have officially signed on to build new resorts in Pedernales, confirming the project’s scale and legitimacy. For travelers, these brands guarantee a standard of quality, luxury, and service that they know and trust.

The major hotel groups establishing a presence are:

  • Hilton
  • Marriott International
  • Iberostar Group
  • Karisma Hotels & Resort
  • Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection
  • Sunwing

Construction is already moving at a fast pace. Iberostar and a new Secrets Resort & Spa from Hyatt are among the first to break ground. Officials are targeting an early 2026 opening for the first wave of hotels, which will introduce over 3,000 brand-new rooms to the market.

New Airport and Seaport to Unlock the Destination

A new destination needs new ways to get there. To make Pedernales easily accessible, two major infrastructure projects are nearing completion.

The new Pedernales International Airport will soon allow travelers to fly directly to the region, eliminating long transfer times. At the same time, the newly opened Port of Cabo Rojo is already a success, having welcomed thousands of cruise ship passengers from lines like Norwegian and Carnival, who are getting a sneak peek of the area’s incredible potential.

The Dominican government is also making sure visitors feel secure. Given the region’s proximity to the Haitian border, a significant investment has been made in security, including a reinforced border and a strong presence from the specialized Tourist Police (POLITUR). This ensures the new resort areas will be a safe and relaxing haven for all visitors.

This is a landmark moment for the Dominican Republic. By partnering with world-renowned hotel brands and building state-of-the-art infrastructure, the country is not just adding more hotels—it’s launching its next great vacation hotspot. Get ready to experience a whole new side of paradise.
