Major North American airlines are continuing to expand the availability of flights to Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic, with Frontier launching two new direct routes.
Frontier is the latest airline to increase non-stop flights to the major resort hotspot after JetBlue launched a new Orlando-Punta Cana flight last week.
Here’s the latest on Frontier’s newest Dominican Republic flights.
Frontier To Fly Non-Stop To Punta Cana And Santo Domingo
Frontier is one of the leading ultra-low-cost airlines in the United States, operating an extensive network of domestic and international routes. Now, the air carrier is further expanding its presence in the Caribbean market with several new Punta Cana and Santo Domingo flights.
The airline recently began operating a new direct flight between Atlanta and Santo Domingo, and will launch a new non-stop flight to Punta Cana from Tampa starting May 21.
The new routes will have a frequency of two weekly flights, with departures on Sundays and Thursdays. The decision to add new routes comes as Punta Cana soars in popularity among travelers and the busy summer season approaches.
Frontier’s Atlanta-Santo Domingo flights are selling for as little as $86 per person throughout July, meaning travelers can still find great deals for the busy summer season.
Meanwhile, direct flights from Tampa to Punta Cana are priced similarly throughout the summer, with deals for as little as $114 per person in June. With the new flights, Frontier is offering some of the lowest fares in the market, although travelers will have to account for extra charges.

According to Daniel Shurz, the senior vice-president of Frontier, “We are happy with our expansion to Santo Domingo and Punta Cana…This means more affordable and convenient flights and an increase for travel to the island,” the executive said in a statement.
Several U.S-based airlines have augmented the number of direct routes to the Dominican Republic, including JetBlue, which recently announced two new flights to the Dominican Republic from its Orlando hub.
Frontier now operates a total of 13 routes between the United States and the Dominican Republic. U.S. travelers are in for a treat this year as Punta Cana’s connectivity grows significantly with the addition of new routes.
Travelers can also benefit from the new Atlanta – Santo Domingo route, which will boost cultural and historical tourism in the bustling Dominican capital.
With the new routes, U.S. low-cost airlines now operate some of the busiest flights to the Dominican Republic, with connections from most large American hubs, including New York, Boston, and Atlanta.
Punta Cana Airport Expansion Project To Boost Travel
Punta Cana International Airport is wrapping up a massive expansion project that will not only improve safety and comfort but also allow for more aerial routes between the resort destination and the U.S.
The ongoing expansion will add 13 air bridges as well as high-tech security and check-in facilities. The United States is also expected to sign a new Open Skies treaty with the Dominican Republic as early as June.

According to diplomatic sources, the agreement, which has been in the making for over a decade, could significantly lower airfare as it would allow airlines to negotiate new routes directly with Dominican airports.
Although the expansion will conclude this May, there’s more good news for Punta Cana travelers as officials look to further renovate the other terminals. Cibao International Airport, located west of Punta Cana, is also due for a makeover in the coming years as travel numbers continue to grow.
