TripAdvisor has just revealed that Punta Cana is the second most popular international location for U.S. travelers this spring.
The online travel review website recently published its much-awaited Seasonal Travel Index, which takes a look at the main travel trends among American travelers, for whom Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic are increasingly popular.
Punta Cana has seen its popularity skyrocket since the removal of COVID-19 restrictions, and this spring, the destination is projected to become even more popular.
A recent study published by the leading online travel review website Tripadvisor suggests that Punta Cana is the second most sought-after destination for U.S. travelers after Cancun.
In its detailed report, Tripadvisor also revealed that a whopping 64% of Americans plan on taking a vacation this spring, a significant increase from previous years.
While most surveyed U.S. travelers intend to take 1 to 2 trips, nearly one in five respondents said they would take between three to five trips.
For a growing number of travelers, the Dominican Republic and especially Punta Cana are an irresistible choice. From year-long sunny weather to some of the world’s leading resorts, Punta Cana’s winning mix of tropical scenery and Caribbean hospitality is hard to find elsewhere.

Earlier this year, the online travel giant also included the Dominican Republic on its list of the top 10 destinations to visit in 2023.
With great availability for flights and affordable all-inclusive resorts, the sun-soaked country is more popular than ever before among American travelers.
Overall, the Dominican Republic appears to be getting unprecedented attention from visitors, and the sunny island has reported back-to-back travel records for over a year.
The trend is set to continue this year as air travel, and especially cruise travel continues to grow.
While Punta Cana often tops the popularity charts, many of its resorts are often recognized as some of the best in the world. Situated in a private enclave, Tortuga Bay Resort & Club was recently crowned one of the top Caribbean resorts, according to the U.S. News & World Report.
Other resorts, such as Secrets Cap Cana and Sanctuary Cap Cana, have also gained recognition for offering some of the most lavish experiences in hospitality.
Punta Cana welcomes nearly 70% of all international tourists in the Dominican Republic, and its airport is the country’s largest, handling some eight million travelers per year.
The massive airport is just about to get a lot better with the launching of the upgraded Terminal B in May this year, which will have over 10 new air bridges and several new amenities.
New Open Skies Treaty Could Further Boost Interest In The Dominican Republic
Earlier this year, Canada and the Dominican Republic signed a new Open Skies Agreement, a framework enabling airlines to negotiate new routes with the country’s airports directly.
The treaty took over a decade to finalize, and is slowly starting to take effect.
Although the Dominican Republic doesn’t currently have a similar agreement with the United States, authorities are keen on wrapping up negotiations for a similar pact with the U.S.
According to sources from the U.S. Embassy, significant progress has been made, and a new agreement could be signed as early as this year.
With air travel numbers exploding, a new open skies treaty could make travel to the Dominican Republic more affordable than ever before.
Travelers can currently fly non-stop to Punta Cana from most large U.S. hubs, but there is a lack of direct connections from smaller regional airports.
This could all change with the new treaty, opening up new flight options for sun-seeking travelers.
