The Four Seasons chose to build their new Tropicalia property on Playa Esmeralda, which sits near the quiet town of Miches on the southern shore of Samaná Bay. This northeastern coast is significantly wilder and much less developed than the traditional tourist zones. By choosing this specific secluded location, the brand is making a massive bet on travelers who want to completely escape the standard tourist crowds while still enjoying the absolute highest level of service and comfort.
Intimate Scale And Incredible Architecture
If you despise fighting for a pool chair at a massive three thousand room resort, this new property is built exactly for you. The Four Seasons Tropicalia is designed as an incredibly intimate boutique estate, featuring just 95 rooms and suites alongside 25 exclusive private residences. The private residences will feature three and four bedroom layouts.
The visual design of the resort is being spearheaded by the highly acclaimed Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld. His vision brings a stunning tropical modernism to the coastline, focusing on seamlessly blending the luxury structures into the surrounding natural environment. The entire 24 hectare property is spread across a massive 60 acre private estate that includes untouched beaches, vibrant coral reefs, lush mountains, deep forests, and stunning natural lagoons. Adding to the visual appeal, the landscaping is being handled by EDSA, and the entire project is actively targeting a prestigious LEED certification for environmental sustainability.
Eco Conscious Luxury And On Site Experiences
The definition of luxury has completely evolved over the last few years. Modern travelers do not just want a nice bed and a fancy lobby; they want a genuine connection to the destination they are visiting. The Tropicalia estate includes an actual working farm located right on the property. This farm will actively produce organic produce, local honey, dairy, and eggs directly for the resort. You are literally eating food grown just a few steps away from your luxury suite.
When it comes to daily activities, the focus remains heavily on the incredible local environment. Guests will have direct access to premium water sports right off the beach. While the 95 luxury rooms and 25 private residences are the primary focus for the 2027 grand opening, the development team is already planning for future expansions. A world class mountainside golf course is planned to open at the Tropicalia estate in the future. This future course was designed by the legendary golf architect Tom Doak.
To ensure the property operates at the absolute highest level from day one, the brand appointed Hervé Fucho as the general manager. He brings nearly thirty years of global experience working at Four Seasons properties across three continents. His background includes a recent role as resort manager at the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo in Mexico, where he helped establish a farm connected to local agricultural traditions.
